Thank You!

It is so hard to believe that our school year has come to an end!  It has been an amazing year and I have enjoyed everyday in the classroom with your children.  It has been a privilege to be part of their learning journey and I am going to miss them very much.  I am so proud of how far they have come and how eagerly they have embraced learning.

My blog will be active throughout the summer so students will be welcome to use it and visit some favourite sites, videos, stories, or look back at some the learning that was documented on it. Thank you for the tremendous support that you have given me and our class throughout the year.  Your children are all amazing and I was so blessed to be their teacher this year.  I wish all of you a wonderful summer!

Sincerely,
Kim Weber

Mill of Kintail Field Trip

We had a wonderful day at the Mill of Kintail last week.  The weather was perfect and students enjoyed looking for living things on our hike and stream study.  Many thanks to the parents who were able to accompany us.  Below are some highlights from our day!

Entrepreneur Day!

On June 14, students celebrated Entrepreneur Day in our Grade 1 Class.  Students were involved in creating their own goods to sell, pricing them, and creating posters to advertise their shops.
Students took turns playing the role of shopper and shopkeeper.  Using coins that were provided at each shop, they were expected to represent the price of an item by selecting the right coin combination.  Students made their own shopping bags and were able to collect a a sample of each item that was created.  Below are some pictures from our day which was a huge success judging by the student's enthusiasm and engage from start to finish!

Thank you for sending in plastic bags.  We collected over 10,000 bags.
Have a look at the video that was prepared by the Eco-Club!

Congratulations to our marathon runners.
We enjoyed hearing about their day and seeing their medals.

We enjoy doing a little cosmic yoga at the end of some days!

Our Puppet Making Workshop
We had tons of fun creating our puppets and stories to go along with them!

We have been practising measuring the area of objects using non-standard measurement.

We are also measuring the length and height of objects using non-standard measurement.

Plastic Bag Challenge
Do not throw away your plastic bags! Please start saving them for GV’s Plastic Bag Challenge.
How will it work?

  • Students collect as many carry out plastic shopping bags as they can and bring them to school from Monday, May 29 to Friday, June 2.
  • All bags collected will be processed and used to make new products!
  • Elementary schools from across Canada are challenged to collect as many plastic bags as they can for recycling. Schools that collect the most plastic bags for recycling per student and/or show their enthusiasm for the challenge and its message on social media, are eligible to win prizes to support environmental initiatives in their school or community.

On Wednesday, we had a Fraction Tea Party!  Students have been working hard identifying fractions as equal parts of a whole. They have used a variety of activities to practise partitioning wholes and they have also been on the lookout for fractions in the classroom!  Hailey observed that the table groups of 3 tables represent thirds. Ethan noticed that his sandwich was cut in quarters.  It was a fun unit and there is not doubt that the students love fractions!

Students had a chance to visit with the chickens and hold them in the classroom.  They practised their skills of observation by recording information about the chicks in the brooder.

On Friday, we participated with the entire school in cleaning the school grounds as part of "Clean the Capital."
